The Project’s Recirculated Draft Environmental
Impact Report (RDEIR) states:
“This Project would contribute between 4.5% and 5.9% of the
near-term peak hour traffic, west of Olinda Village, and between
4.6% and 5.3% of the long-term peak hour traffic, with a deficient
Level Of Service "E" in both time frames. This would mean increased
delays and longer travel times for motorists commuting during those
time frames.”
In other words, this Project
would make a bad situation even worse and there is nothing they want
to do about it. The Final EIR states that “the proposed Project
would generate a significant amount of traffic on SR-142 [Carbon
Canyon Road].” This project will add another 1,579 daily trips onto
a road that already doesn’t move during peak hours. That is an
additional 6% on top of the large volume of cars and trucks that
currently funnel through Carbon Canyon every morning and evening.
Since Carbon Canyon Road is only two lanes, we believe this
permanent additional traffic could be life threatening.
Then there is the issue of the extra traffic during two and a half
years of construction. This additional traffic, coming from the Brea
side of the canyon, will affect Carbon Canyon Road and surrounding
roads six days a week from 7 AM to 7 PM for two and a half years.
And this does not take into consideration heavy rains, landslides,
and possible fires that could render the road closed for extended
periods of time.

Yeah! Another 4-6% more traffic on the Canyon Road - just
what we need, more cars on our empty streets and freeways. |
